The Best North East Restaurants and Recipes for National Curry Week

Its National Curry Week! And as you all know, I love a good curry dish. If I’m not knocking one up in the kitchen, I’m sampling one at the many curry houses in the North East.

So to help you get your fix this week, I’ve compiled my easiest recipes and favouritest restaurants.

1. Sri Lankan Yellow Curry Recipe

This little number is a healthy alternative for a takeaway, if you’re on a pre-Christmas shred. Dan even called it ‘the best curry he’s ever had’, I shit you not. Take a peak at the recipe here.

2. Amaani at the Pumphouse, Durham

This spot is one of my firm favourites for Indian cuisine. Opened early 2018 by established chefs and tucked away in the most beautiful rural surroundings, Amaani at the Pumphouse is the epitome of a ‘hidden gem‘ – I recommend the Goan Lamb and a side of Bombay Aloo. Read the full review here.

3. Saag Gosht Recipe

I know I spout on endlessly about how much I love spice, but a less fiery Saag Gosht is sometimes too tempting. I love the flavours in this curry and it was so simple to recreate at home. Check out the recipe for Saag Gosht here.

4. Sachins Indian Restaurant, Newcastle

To my knowledge, this is the best Indian restaurant in the toon. The service and quality of food never fails, and if you don’t get the Salmon Tikka 3 Ways you’re doing it wrong. Read all about Sachins, Newcastle here.

5. Moroccan Harissa Curry Recipe

Perhaps you’d like to try something a bit different this National Curry Week? Well, look no further. This is an absolute gem of a recipe and includes one of my ultimate kitchen staples, Flavour Magic Harissa seasoning. See if this number tickles your pickle here.

6. Chaophraya Thai Restaurant, Newcastle

If Thai is more your bag, then you really can’t go wrong with Chaophraya in Newcastle’s Eldon Square. If you wanna go all out this week (if you’re gonna do it, you do it properly – right?), they have an incredible cooking class that you can take. It’s so much fun and the food is amazing. Read about my experience here. I’ve also just discovered their Thai Tapas on a lunchtime, perfect for a catch up with the girls!

7. Spice Tailor Goan Curry Kit

If I’ve gave you a strong hankering for a curry but you either a) can’t be arsed to cook or b) can’t be arsed to face the world, here’s a little cheat. This super simple, yet super easy Goan Curry Kit from The Spice Tailor is guaranteed to hit every spot. You’re welcome –read the full review here.

In all foodie fairness, we’re not short of amazing eateries you can enjoy a curry in the North East this National Curry Week.
